Jeffrey Carl – Baritone
Toronto born Canadian/British baritone and Canada Council winner Jeffrey Carl has performed over 35 lead roles in Europe, North and South America and Asia. His concert and recital repertoire encompass some 19 languages, most recently singing in Armenian with Aline Kutan and Michael McMahon at Pollock Hall Montreal for the 100th Armenian Genocide Anniversary.
He has sung Ford (Falstaff), Tosca, Il Trovatore, Don Giovanni, Hamlet (Paul Curran/Westwood), Faust, Eugene Onegin, Otello, Die Zauberflöte Lucia di Lammermoor, Macbeth, La Bohème, Un Ballo in Maschera, Hérodiade, Madama Butterfly, Cavalleria Rusticana, Carmen, Aïda, La Traviata, in Modena, Reggio Emiglia, Pesaro, Pisa, Ravenna, Ferrara, Livorno, Jesi, The Rake’s Progress live for RAI 2/Neschling, Turandot/Teatro Municipal, Rio de Janeiro, a Showcase Recital at Canada House in London UK/Ralls, I Vespri Siciliani (Opera in Concert), in Cyprus Caterina Cornaro, Megaron/Athens/Thessaloniki Symphony Orchestra/Michailidis. In Canada, he created roles in two world-première operas by Harry Somers/La Serinette (CBC) and In Search of Zoroaster, by R. Murray Schafer. In London he created 3 roles in Havergal Brian’s The Cenci, Royal Festival Hall (BBC).
Recordings include Richard Bonynge’s Giuditta (2 roles) Hadley/Riedel, and The Czarevich Gustafson TELARC, Lusignano in Donizetti’s Caterina Cornaro Migenes/Bonynge London (live) and a solo disc ‘Arias’/National Opera Orchestra of Moldova/Dohotaru.
Concert repertoire includes The Messiah at the Royal Albert Hall/Willcocks, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, the Requiems of Brahms, Fauré, Mozart, Verdi, Dvorak, Duruflé, Bernstein Mass, Dream of Gerontius, Elijah, Belshazzar’s Feast, A Child of our Time, all the Bach Passions, Stabat Mater(s),Messa da Gloria, Mahler’s Eighth Symphony, Das Lied von der Erde, Recital tours with Maestro Brian Stanborough, (Marbella and Bordeaux, London), Carmina Burana (Montreal/Ottawa/London), Verdi Requiem (NAC Ottawa), Beethoven Missa Solemnis, and Le Paradis Perdu, Dubois/Brousseau.
He recently made his Rigoletto debut under Maestro Vito Lo Re, from Milan, (Pellegrini Opera) and this past Sept, reprised Germont, with the new Southern Ontario Lyric Opera, receiving very high praise from Opera Canada.
