Jean-E. Morris-Hudson has been performing and teaching in the Ottawa area for many years. Her past seasons included singing the role of Berthe from Rossini’s Barber of Seville for both Opera By Request in Toronto and staged and costumed with Pellegrini Opera in Ottawa, the role of Charlotte from Massenet’s Werther in Toronto and Ottawa for Opera By Request.
In Hamilton she sang with Opera Hamilton in Lucia as Alice, and their chorus in La Traviata, Manon Lescaut, Carmen, La Bohème and Andrea Chénier.
In Calgary she sung the roles of Mother Superior in Sound of Music with Mainstage Okotoks; Miss Stacey in Anne of Green Gables; Dolly in Hello Dolly with St. Peter’s Players; and the Dragon in Alice Through the Looking Glass with Heritage Park Players.
In Ottawa she sang with the Orpheus Society, Festival Ottawa Opera chorus in Eugene Onegin, and the Ottawa Choral Society including their evening in honour of Robbie Burns. Her concert in the St. Luke’s Concert series “Fall Into Baroque” in 2013, had one of the largest ever audiences in the series.
Recently she has sung as a mezzo soloist for the Bach B Minor Mass under the direction of Brad Mills. Her debut solo recording, a tribute to women who supported her artistry, is a classical portrait of a variety of favourites.
This season’s highlights will include the role of Giovanna in Pellegrini Opera’s production of Rigolletto and Cornelia in Julius Caesar, with an Ottawa Opera collaborative group, as well as Opera By Request in Toronto in May 2016.
